Crunchy, Crispy, Cheesy, Breadsticks

Ever see the commercial outtakes of an elderly couple trying to say "it's a buttery, flaky, crust"? No... well look at it after you read this recipe, because every time I think about crispy cheesy breadsticks, my mind goes straight to that video. You'll thank me after you watch it - grab a tissue because it's so funny you'll cry.

I don't think they'll have an easy time saying this recipe, but I do think they'd have a ball making it! These breadsticks are so easy to make, snack on (which is probably a bad thing), and take on the go! Try it out and let me know what you think!

Bon appétit and happy cooking!

Prep Time: 20 min. Cook Time: 10 min Total Time: 30 min

Yield: 60 twists

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup sharp cheese, grated

  • 1/3 cup cold water

Equipment:

- Rolling Pin

- Fluted pastry cutter (or pizza cutter)

- Ungreased cookie sheet

Instructions:

  1. In a food processor, process butter into dry ingredients until crumbly.

  2. Add cheese (I like to use cracker barrel) and pulse until combined.

  3. Slowly add water into crumbled pastry, 1 tablespoon at a time. Keep pulsing until pastry just comes together.

  4. Roll into a 10 in. (L) x 12 in. (H) rectangle on lightly floured pastry cloth/mat.

  5. Use a knife to cut the pastry in half, horizontally, so you now have two 6 in. sections. Then, start cutting the pastry vertically into 1/2 in. strips with the fluted pastry cutter.

  6. Hold the top end of the strip with one hand, while you use the other hand to twist the bottom clockwise about 5 times. Press down just enough on both ends so the pastry stays in place. Move twists to an ungreased cookie sheet.

  7. Bake in a 425° for 10 minutes or until lightly golden.

I'd love to see how the recipe came out if you tried it. Tag #whatsyourcheatday on your post and I'll be sure to give you a shoutout!
